INITIATION PROCESS

START UP

Initiating a project with Calpine is quite easy - just contact us at your convenient timing and tell us your primary needs and expectations. Based on this, Calpine’s IT Team including Business Analysts and Software Architects will approach you to have a detailed understanding on your business processes, user needs and requirements. We are expecting your ideas and thoughts on the proposed requirement. We do not expect you to present everything as a well-defined and/or structured requirement specification. You can freely describe your thoughts and expectations and this information is enough for us to start modeling your project. We will analyze your information, ask some questions, offer you more ideas and then formalize your answers in the form of project documentation.

Once combined we clearly describe the business requirements of the system in the Requirement Specification Document which will be given to you for final evaluation. This will help you to minimize your efforts to study and evaluate the requirements. On the basis of the agreed business requirements, we will set about with the proposed solution.

And in our proposals, it can vary from a simple estimation of workload to cost of the project up to the full suggestion regarding Architecture of the Project, Analysis on Technologies, TOC (Total Cost of Ownership) Estimation, Design Suggestions, etc.

Initial estimation of the project is free and usually developed within a couple of days. In addition, before you deliver us any project-related information, we can sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) that protects your privacy and intellectual property.

FLOW

In our company we use a software development process that is fully documented and constantly improved. It is based on best practices and industry standards like Rational Unified Process, Oracle PJM, ISO 9001:2000 and CMM. This process models enables us to successfully develop projects within your budget and time frames and, of course, with world-class quality.

Calpine has defined a distinct Development model for all our Projects over the time. The key phases in the Development Model are:

Inception
Here with the Inception Phase we, start off the project by initiating a discussion and understanding the primary requirements. This phase takes about 5-10% of the project time.

Elaboration
In Elaboration Phase, we do the requirements collection and analysis, planning the schedule, creating the design and architecture of the system. This phase takes about 20-30% of the time.

Construction
Construction Phase is the biggest part, where the coding, development, and testing are performed. This phase takes up maximum of the entire project time. i.e., about 50-70% of project time.

Transition
Transition Phase is where the results of our work are delivered to the customer and the solution is implemented to their place, and if needed we offer training also to the different users of the solution. This takes about 10% of time.

At Calpine, we believe these four stages are the integral part of any project. But then, depending on the complexity of the requirement, the budget, and of course on customer's preference and goals, a project may or may not contain all the phases. Also we may include some customized phases, like Extended Technical Documentation Development, Extra Testing, and Change Management etc.
